The AIANY Committee on Residential Architecture returns with its 4th edition of The Howl, a multimedia forum exploring storytelling as a powerful tool for architects to communicate ideas, connect with audiences, and envision a more compelling, equitable, and sustainable built environment.

This year, The Howl returns to the Center for Architecture for a festive year-end gathering under the theme “Reflections and Resolutions.”

Architects are storytellers. Every building begins with a narrative—shaped by people, place, aspirations, and the possibilities of design. Yet the stories behind our work are often overshadowed by the finished product, reduced to a project description, or lost along the way. The Howl offers an opportunity to rediscover those stories and give voice to the ideas, experiences, and ambitions that shape our work.

As we look toward a new year, we invite architects and designers to reflect on where we've been, where we're going, and what we hope to change. What have we learned? What do we wish for? And how might we use our creativity to make a difference?

Part storytelling, part celebration, and part collective resolution, this interactive evening welcomes both invited storytellers and spontaneous voices from the audience. Step up to the open mic to share a personal reflection, a professional revelation, a creative ambition, or a resolution for 2027.

Join us for an evening of stories, conversation, food, and drinks as we celebrate the committee's 2026 season, close out the year, and imagine what comes next.
