Leveraging Infrastructure for Affordability and Growth: the IBX and Beyond

Major transit investments offer a unique opportunity to shape growth, expand housing and economic development, and strengthen neighborhoods, but realizing those benefits requires coordinated action across land use, zoning, infrastructure, and public policy. Using the Interborough Express (IBX) as a case study, this conversation will explore how New York City can proactively align development strategies, public realm improvements, and funding tools with transformative infrastructure investments to maximize community benefits, boost ridership, support vibrant mixed-use neighborhoods, and advance affordability. Drawing on lessons from past transit investments and looking ahead to the priorities of the current administration, panelists will examine the policies, partnerships, and implementation strategies needed to ensure major infrastructure projects serve as catalysts for equitable, sustainable growth across the city.
