Kéyah: A Diné Responsibility to the Land

Join us for a conversation with Victor Pascual, Design Professional at DSGW Architecture, moderated by Anna Martin, Director of Learning and Engagement at the Center for Architecture. 

In this presentation, Victor will explore Kéyah, the Diné concept of land, and the responsibilities that come with living, designing, and building in relationship to it. Within the United States, Indigenous peoples hold diverse names, relationships, and worldviews connected to the land. Indigenous communities are not monolithic; perspectives on rivers, lakes, mountains, landscapes, and the built environment vary across cultures and communities. 

Drawing from a Diné perspective, Victor will consider what responsibility to Kéyah can mean within architecture and the built environment. He will share his journey into architecture and reflect on his experience teaching at the Indigenous Design Camp in Minnesota, where he works with the next generation of Native designers, architects, and changemakers. 

The presentation invites participants to think more deeply about the relationship between architecture, place, culture, and responsibility - and to consider how Indigenous perspectives can shape more meaningful approaches to design and the built environment.
