Participants will see firsthand the inner workings of this ground-up renovation project within one of Manhattan's Upper West Side Landmark Residential Districts. The project architect, engineer, and construction manager will describe the design and specifications process required to preserve the turn-of the century brownstone facade and party walls in their original form while rebuilding the entire structure to accommodate the needs of the current homeowner. Working on a site that is just 20 feet wide sandwiched between fully occupied buildings, THINK Construction was required to excavate almost twenty-feet to incorporate the new steel and concrete structural system and the steel and glass garden facade. No construction materials or pieces of equipment could be delivered or utilized without a strategy in place. All new interior spaces, vertical circulation, and heating and cooling systems needed to be coordinated during the original masonry and brick bearing wall construction, and done without any disturbance to the adjacent buildings and occupants. *This project is a construction site!
