Located in a rapidly changing, mixed-use area of Bushwick, Brooklyn, this all-electric, first-round NYSERDA Buildings of Excellence award winner will offer 94 units of affordable senior housing and meet Passive House design standards. While the development will not certify due to a now-reconsidered technicality around density, the project team will perform all required modeling and testing and has committed to strategic material choices to lower embodied carbon. On this tour, we will delve into the importance of testing regardless of certification, explore building components related to Passive House including the enclosure and mechanicals, discuss cost and tradeoffs associated with the systems choices, talk about material selections with lower embodied carbon, and highlight amenities and other design moves aimed at improving the quality of life for future residents. This will be a hardhat tour and attendees must bring their own personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety boots, goggles, and construction vest). This program will have extremely limited registration so please do not hesitate to register as soon as possible. After the tour, attendees are invited to a nearby location for networking (location TBA). Tour Guide: Sara Bayer, AIA, CPHC, LEED AP, Associate Principal, Director of Sustainability, Magnusson Architecture and Planning (MAP) With additional support from: Lara Caballero Sayalero, Assoc. AIA, CPHC, Project Manager, Magnusson Architecture and Planning (MAP), Dagher Engineering, and sustainability consultant Bright Power who have provided information, documentation and calculations for this tour.
